Nevado de Toluca
An incredible place for nature lovers, were the impressive landscape combines with the peaceful feeling of the atmosphere. As usual, this is a place to visit if you come to México located really near to the city in Toluca the capital city of Estado de México is one of the greatest mountains to climb in this country. Waking up at 5 in the morning, still at dark and feeling so cold I emerged myself into this trip that suddenly became in an adventure. Arriving in the morning to the place, the cold was beyond hard and mainly because I wasn’t prepared to such extreme temperature; my leggings and my double layer of sweater combined with my beloved jean jacket of course were nothing to that climate. With attitude I decided to keep going, to start walking and enjoy the ride; the landscape and the environment itself were really beautiful and been there was my challenge. After 1 hour of walking through mud and water in the woods I started to feel pain and a little bit dizzy, the cold and the continuous rain drops weren’t doing the road easy. The main thought that kept on going in my head was: “What was I thinking when I decided to come here?” although I kept on drinking water and ate some candies the physical challenge was increasing. We were reaching the 2 hours of climbing but I was staying at the end of the group with some other girls, I felt I wanted to go back and rest with some hot chocolate at my bed. We kept going slowly and slowly and with the intention to try to get things better we took some pictures but suddenly when we were back on track no one was over there.
Lost! In the woods, climbing El Nevado de Toluca, 5 girls from 4 different nationalities sure will be a nice newspaper headline and quite an experience to tell later. We were lost for more than an hour, walking in what we believed were circles going nowhere and just dying of cold, hunger and all wet because of the rain. We got to what appeared as a sign or an arrow showing us the road, we took it and surprise! I saw a car going up through the mountain; I couldn’t believe that you actually could “climb” this mountain by car! What a shame for a travel blogger and of course I just wanted to killed my Mexican friends for not telling me. Just as survivors with no shame we stopped a car and God knows how we went the 5 of us in the back part of it just happy and relieved for finally reaching the f*king top of the Nevado. Although this sounded as a pity combination of “The Blair witch project” and the “Amazing Race”, it was a unique experience. Everything was worth it when we arrived to the top and under the fog and the cold you could see the incredible lagoon, with few sun rays the colors were a beautiful combination of blue and green surrounded by a rocky-greenish landscape. For sure I will recommend this place, go by car (be wise), dress correctly for the adventure, and enjoy it because is for sure a place to discover.

Un lugar increíble para los amantes de la naturaleza, donde el paisaje impresionante se combina con una atmósfera de paz. Como de costumbre, este es un lugar para visitar si vienes a México ubicado muy cerca de la ciudad de Toluca, capital del Estado de México, es una de las más grandes montañas para escalar en este país. Despertando a las 5 de la mañana, todavía en la oscuridad y bajo el frío extremo me embarqué en este viaje que de repente se convertiría en una aventura. Al llegar al lugar, el frío era peor de lo esperado; mis leggings y mi doble capa de suéter combinado con mi chaqueta de jean por supuesto no eran nada apropiado para este clima. Con actitud y modo zen decidí seguir adelante, empezar a caminar y disfrutar del paseo; el paisaje era increíble y lo empecé asumir como mi reto personal. Después de 1 hora de caminar por el barro y el agua empecé a sentir dolor y mareo, el frío y las gotas de lluvia continua no hacían el camino fácil. Mi pensamiento constante fue: «¿Qué carajos estaba pensando cuando decidí venir aquí?». Luego de 2 horas de escalada, poco a poco me iba quedando al final del grupo, sentí que quería volver y solo añoraba un chocolate caliente en mi cama. Continúe pero cada vez más lento, con algunas amigas decidimos alegrar el momento y tomarnos unas fotos, paramos lo hicimos y cuando volteamos de repente, no había nadie alrededor.
¡Perdidas! En el bosque, en el intento fallido de escalar El Nevado de Toluca, 5 niñas de 4 nacionalidades diferentes seguro iba a ser El titular del año y si sobrevivíamos toda una experiencia por contar. Pérdidas durante más de una hora, caminando en lo que creíamos eran círculos sin sentido, muriendo de frío, hambre, y mojadas por la lluvia. Llegamos a lo que parecía ser un signo o una flecha que nos mostraba el camino y… ¡Sorpresa! Vimos un carro subiendo por la montaña, no podía creer que todo ese esfuerzo se podría haber hecho en un cómodo y lindo carro y no casi muriendo en el intento ¡Qué vergüenza de blogger de viajes soy!, y por supuesto, mis amigos mexicanos los peores organizadores de todos. Cuál turistas en peligro paramos un carro y solo Dios sabe cómo nos metimos 5 en la parte de atrás, lo único que queríamos era llegar a la f *king cima del Nevado. Aunque este viaje se convirtió de repente en una combinación absurda entre el “Proyecto de la Bruja de Blair” y “Amazing Race” fue una experiencia única. Todo valió la pena cuando llegamos a la cima y bajo la niebla y el frío se podía ver la laguna increíble, con unos pocos rayos de sol los colores eran una hermosa combinación de azul y verde, rodeado por un paisaje rocoso. A pesar de todo si recomiendo este lugar, solo recuerden: ir en carro (lo más sabio por hacer), vestirse correctamente para la aventura y disfrutar de ella; sin lugar a dudas es un lugar por descubrir.
